Covid-19 related project ideas for mechanical engineering students

Project ideas for Mechanical Engineers during Covid-19

Coronavirus disease or COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. It also known as SARS-CoV-2. It was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and later spread globally, resulting in an ongoing pandemic. The common symptoms of virus include cough, fever, fatigue, shortness of breath, and loss of smell and taste. The virus majorly spread between people who came in close contact. Most often via small droplets produced by sneezing, coughing, and talking. Usually, the droplets fall to the ground or onto surfaces rather than traveling through air over long distances.

Preventive Measures against Corona

An individual can take various preventive measures to fight against coronavirus. Some of the most popular and effective ones include frequent handwashing, maintaining physical distance from others (especially from those with symptoms), quarantine (especially for those with symptoms), covering coughs, and keeping unwashed hands away from the face or more.

The use of cloth face coverings like a scarf or a bandana recommended in public settings to minimize the risk of transmissions, with some authorities requiring their use. Medical grade facemasks including N95 masks should only be used by first responders, healthcare workers, and those who care for infected individuals. Engineers of the Top BTech Colleges in India have contributed a lot in benefitting society during this dreadful disease. Also, constantly adding their efforts every day for the same.

Mechanical engineering projects related to corona virus in India

To avoid coronavirus communitive spread, preventive measures should be taken as per the guidelines suggested by government and World Health Organization (WHO). To handle this corona related situation or problem, people are inventing some effective and best solutions to COVID-19 related problems. Combinations of home quarantine, social distancing, closure of schools, universities, top engineering colleges and case isolation are now being extensively practiced. In addition, creativity is being implemented each day to overcome response barriers to those at work and meet the needs of those asked to stay at home.

There are some products related to COVID 19 or coronavirus. Some Manufacturing companies have started the production of corona preventive safety equipment considering the speared of the disease. Under given are certain ideas that could motivate some of the students of Best Engineering Colleges in India to develop a solution to corona related problems.

Foot Operated simple Hand sanitizer Stand

Frequently sanitizing hands with sanitizer liquid is necessary to kill bacterias presents on hands. To avoid any type of contact /touch with sanitizer bottle foot operated stand used. This stand can be fabricated using simple sheet metal brackets and tubes and holders. This stand consists of a foot operating lever, sanitizer bottle holder, tube structure, and bottle holder position adjusting knob. Sanitizer bottles get operated when foot lever is pressed and tubes move downward. This product can cost around 10 to 15 dollars on an average.

Sanitation Disinfection Gate design – Sanitizing Booth

Sanitation Disinfection Gate or tunnel used to reduce unwanted viruses and bacteria from clothes or the outer body of objects. This sanitation disinfection gate or sanitizing booth can be made up of metal, plastic, metal, or more. The main parts used for making this setup are spray nozzle, stainless steel sheet, Motion Sensor, Electrical operated agricultural sprayer, piping, timer, relay circuit, etc. This device can be used mainly for public places like bus stops, Companies, cinema halls, Malls, temples, parks, hospitals etc.

Foot-operated water tap mechanism/ Touchless hand washing and sanitizing arrangement

The mentioned concept is mostly similar to foot-operated sanitizing machine. In addition, hand washing can be also possible to make touchless with help of a foot-operated mechanism. There are several foot operating hardware can be acts as a valve that is actuated by foot. The device ensures hands-free delivery of water from a plumbing system to ensure defence against cross infections from viruses and microbes as well as preventing the wastage of water. Once you press the foot pedal, the valves get in ON position and water will come out from WATER TAP. It has various benefits including Hands-free, foot-operated, reduces water wastage, eliminates human error, Easy to use, Durable, and Cost-Effective.

Mechanical Lead screw Operated Ventilator

A ventilator further provides mechanical ventilation, which operates by moving breathable air into and out of the lungs. This further deliver breaths to a patient who is physically unable to breathe, or breathing insufficiently. Modern ventilators computerized microprocessor-controlled machines. Also, patients can be ventilated with a simple, hand-operated bag valve mask. Ventilators chiefly used in home care, intensive care medicine, and emergency medicine. And also, in anesthesiology (as a component of an anesthesia machine).

Sensor Operated Automatic hand sanitizer machine

The proximity sensor of an infrared (IR) and a small solenoid combined to make the 6-Volt DC powered automatic soap dispenser unit. When the infrared sensor detects the close proximity of a hand, it enables the solenoid driver. That makes it easy for the students of the top engineering colleges in India. Find available voltage through output of driver that energizes solenoid. It has main components includes Outer body, Sanitizer Container, Solenoid Valve, Diaphragm pump, Mist Atomizer, Waterproof non-contact ultrasonic sensor, Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS), Control Circuit, etc.

For clean Home Surrounding – Mechanical sanitizer sprayer Pump

The spraying traditionally done by labor carrying backpack type sprayer which requires more human effort by the students of btech colleges India. The main motive of this concept is a modification of agricultural sprayer for sanitizing home surrounding frequently without using hands for pumping and holding the pump at the back of the human/operator. This further consists of a bicycle spoked wheel which connected with an oscillating hand pump lever using a chain and sprocket mechanism. All components fixed on frame or body. When frame pushed forward wheel motion gets transmitted to the lever and pumping action takes place.

How to define future of Engineering Colleges in India after Corona?

How can engineering colleges India defines their future after covid-19?

Do you know, what we would have done in the absence of the internet? All the technology tools accessed during the long and continuing Covid-19 lockdown. Considering this fact, the basic working of engineering colleges India has changed considerably ever since the advent of COVID-19. Some have switched over to the old-fashioned method of education through correspondence, wherein the majority of the interaction takes place through written email.

Engineering Colleges in Jaipur have tried to create a new setting that is mostly online such as ZOOM. Some colleges are still in between and teaching students through online tutoring and practice programs, along with posting videos. Similarly, few are still trying to get things back to normal and start with the traditional methods of teaching.

There may be changes in the attendance pattern both for the students and the teaching staff. The regular classes are not organized and there will be no sporting activities or cultural activities. With this, things will look much different to what students of BTech Colleges Rajasthan had been seeing up till now. Since the mobility of the students will be highly restricted, going from one place to another will involve a lot of planning associated with the safety. A large gathering of students will be prohibited at all costs, specifically gathering in auditoriums or at other places.

Grand challenge approach

The pillars of this engineering re-imagination are different. Engineering education has to incorporate within itself a strong element of ‘Grand Challenge’ problem-solving. Engineers of best engineering colleges in Rajasthan have to work to find solutions to “big problems” of the world, like climate change, agriculture, health, education and so on. This will bring in more innovation in engineering education and create jobs for our graduates, as some of the best opportunities for innovation.

If engineering education at top btech colleges Jaipur has to fundamentally re-invent itself, then students need to be trained early to take on big challenges. One innovation in engineering education encourage different modules around a specific big problem with teams of students taking on projects to build solutions to a specific problem.

Such an education will also be inter-disciplinary. The ‘big problem-solving mind-set’ also pays rich dividends in a country like India. Where solutions to some of the biggest challenges lie in technology. A simple problem like ‘tap water for all’ is an engineering challenge that has the potential to pay both social and economic dividends.

Additionally, the higher education in today’s age cannot operate in a disciplinary archive. A degree in any discipline, at least at the undergraduate level, like BTech has to be broad-based. Engineering education will also require to be broader, with no absolute boundaries.

Integrating disciplines

If engineering has to solve problems and provide solutions, then it is significant for the students of top BTech colleges to understand that such solutions require an interplay of different disciplines. For instance, drone technology combines elements of computer science, electronics and mechanical engineering. Engineering disciplines have to collapse to reflect this current reality. Also, new engineering degrees may have to do away with traditional branches of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering. The way we know them and be reimagined to reflect more contemporary applications.

Engineering is the application of scientific principles to solve problems. Engineering education has to evolve to reflect contemporary problems. In some way or the other, Computer science is becoming fundamental to most disciplines. Engineering disciplines have to adapt to this new reality. It has integrated more with pure sciences and better with humanities and social sciences too.

The current approach is to separate engineering and science education and to offer some courses in social sciences to provide a “humanities” breadth to engineering graduates of Best Engineering Colleges Rajasthan. The ideal scenario has to be much more than this. It will require the creation of new courses. That fundamentally integrate an understanding of society with elements of science and technology.

Entrepreneurial mindset

The third element of this re-imagination is to inculcate a maker, innovator, entrepreneurial mindset amongst various engineers. Engineering education has to become more experiential. Engineers need to be encouraged to ‘innovate’ and ‘build’ while studying their undergraduate course. Graduates could be encouraged to take a 6-9-month break in the middle of their course to go and work in industry. Industry provides access to fresh ideas and students get early exposure and validation of their interest.

A big part of this education is in inculcating a certain mindset. Often, engineering colleges India and universities believe that their job is to impart knowledge and keep away from inculcating mindset traits. Individuals believe that an entrepreneurial and growth mindset is a key skill required to excel in the 21st century. Such a mindset can create new, exciting ventures and also be better able to identify problems, find solutions, build teams and execute well at the workplace.

The post Covid-19 world will require every organisation to completely transform digitally. This was already happening but the pace will only increase exponentially. The entire world will need more graduates than less who understand science and engineering and can help navigate this new world. The premium on technology talent is going to be higher with the advent of time. Every engineer will be more employable than before.

However, the graduates of Best Engineering colleges in India will require fundamentally different competencies and need to be educated differently. It broad-based understanding and study of contemporary technologies and society. Alongside the mindset to deal with uncertainty, to innovate, to self-reflect and collaborate.
